The Choral Society «ARMONIA» of Preveza enunciates the organization of the 26th INTERNATIONAL CHORAL FESTIVAL OF PREVEZA in the frames of which the 14th INTERNATIONAL CHORAL COMPETITION OF SACRED MUSIC will take place from 3rd until 6th of July 2008 in PREVEZA.
CHARACTER OF THE 26th INTERNATIONAL CHORAL FESTIVAL OF PREVEZA
The International Choral Festival of Preveza will be held for the 26th time. This will be the 14th continuous year that the International Choral Competition of Sacred Music (I. C. S. M) will take place. The main purpose of this festival is to establish the institution, to cultivate the sense of music and to spread the Byzantine chant all over the world. Choral Society «ARMONIA» of Preveza will be glad to welcome all the exquisite choirs from Greece and from all over the world to the picturesque town of Preveza from 3rd to 6th of July 2008. You will have the opportunity to visit all the historical monuments of the area and to enjoy the calm sea along the long beaches of the Ionian Sea.
COMPETITION RULES
1. Time & Place of the Competition.
The 14th International Choral Competition of Sacred Music (ICSM) will be held from 3rd to 6th of July 2008 in Preveza. The competitive performances will be given in a concert hall in the presence of audience.
2. Participation
Only amateur singers' choirs can take part in the competition (this rule does not apply to the conductors).
3. Deadline for applications
The deadline for filling an application form is 28th of February 2008. The Organizing Committee will announce the participating choirs until 20th of March 2008 and will send them the compulsory works.
4. Competition's categories
Each choir can participate and compete in all six (6) categories and have the opportunity to compete in more than one category. The categories of the Competition are the following:
· Category A: Mixed choirs with a minimum of 22 singers. The maximum is not limited.
· Category B: Equal voices' choirs (male or female) with a minimum of 22 singers. The maximum is not limited.
· Category C: Children's choirs with a minimum of 22 singers. The maximum is not limited. Maximum age is 17 years.
· Category D: Chamber choirs (mixed, male or female ensembles) with a maximum of 20 singers.
· Category E: Youth's choirs (mixed or female ensembles) with a minimum of 22 singers. The maximum is not limited. Maximum age is 25 years.
· Category F: Choirs of Byzantine chant.
5. International Jury Committee
An International Jury Committee, consisting of at least three well-known Greek and foreign musicians will judge the competitive performances.
6. Marking Criteria
The criteria on which marking will be based are: Technique (rythme, articulation, sound), Difficulty, Intonation, Interpretation & Stylistic fidelity. The results of the marking process will be unappealable and irrefutable in all aspects.
7. Repertory - Freely Selected Pieces
The choirs of categories A, B, C, D & E must prepare on free choice:
· A piece of sacred music by a composer who lived before 1800.
· A piece of sacred music by a composer who lived between 1800 - 1950
· A piece of sacred music by a composer who was born after 1950
· A folk song from the choir's country of origin.
The choirs of category F must prepare on free choice:
· Two pieces of Byzantine chant.
8. Repertory - Compulsory Pieces
All the choirs are compelled to be prepared for a compulsory piece, which will be sent to them by the artistic management of the festival. This will be selected between the two which will be suggested for each category.
9. Duration
The whole competition program should not exceed 20 minutes for each category.
10. "A cappella" - Intonation
All the choirs will be competing in works "a cappella" and on free choice of intonation (identified in advance).
11. Marking - Medals
The I.J.C will award prizes to the choirs, which will have achieved the following marks:
From 90,00 to 100 points, Gold medal
From 80,00 to 89,99 points, Silver medal
From 70,00 to 79,99 points, Bronze medal
12. Marking - Prize Money
The following prize money will be awarded to the choirs with gold medal and with the highest mark in each category:
Category A: 600 EUR, Gold medal & 1st prize
Category B: 500 EUR, Gold medal & 1st prize
Category C: 400 EUR, Gold medal & 1st prize
Category D: 400 EUR, Gold medal & 1st prize
Category E: 400 EUR, Gold medal & 1st prize
Category F: 300 EUR, Gold medal & 1st prize
13. Marking - Special Prizes
The I.J.C. may award other special prizes:
· For the best performance of Hellenic choir
· For the best performance of orthodox chant
· For the best folklore performance
· For the best conducting, e.t.a.
14. Awarding Ceremony
All the prizes, the certificates and the diplomas will be announced and handed in at a special ceremony in the presence of audience and authorities, where all the awarded choirs will perform program of 10 minutes, of their own choice.
15. Non - competitive concerts
The place and the time for the non-competitive concerts will be arranged by the Organising Committee. Pieces of each choir's choice will be performed "a cappella" within 10-15 minutes.

17. Application form
The application form, fully completed, should be followed by:
· A short history of the choir and a curriculum vitae of the conductor
· A photograph of the choir and another one of the conductor.
· A recent recording of the choir.
· Five (5) scores of every piece of the choir's choice.
· A list of the names and addresses of the choir members, that does not hold EU passports.
· The registration fee, 300 EUR in check mailed to the address of the festival or transferred to the following accounts:

18. Accommodation
The expenses of accommodation, transportation and feeding will be charged to the choirs. Each choir will be able to participate in the festival only on the condition that they will make accommodation arrangements through the travel agency that sponsors the festival. (The prices are attached). On any other case, they will not be admitted in the festival. So, each choir authorizes the Organising Committee to make all the appropriate procedures concerning booking accommodation through the specific travel agency of our region (Note: in case any choir does not make reservations through the above-mentioned office, a contribution fee of 3000 EUR will be paid)
Price list for 2007: For the 2008 festival the prize list will be announced at the end of September. At this moment you can calculate about 15 - 20% plus to the last year's prices. You have noticed that the manifestations and the accommodation will take place around Preveza and not in the centre (except for a small number of hotels). So all the choirs need transportation during the festival (except for the choirs that they have their own buses)

19. Recording
Broadcasting and Radio Companies from Greece and other countries, authorized by the organizers, may record the performances, without any claim on behalf of the participants.
