Its a must-see for the best choirs from all over the world: the International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf, Germany, which takes place every two years around Whitsun. But not only the best singers come to compete, also the worlds best conductors are on site.
Vacation and education
This year the International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf offers a special arrangement for ambitious choral conductors. First the participants can attend the competition in the beautiful Allgaeu region in the south of Bavaria near the famous castle “Neuschwanstein” from May 28th till June 3rd, they can join every event and get in touch with the ambassadors of the choral world. Subsequently from June 3rd till 7th the International Masterclass for Choral Conductors gives choirmasters a chance to internalize these impressions. Prof. Volker Hempfling, founder of the famous Kölner Kantorei, Dr. Brady Allred, Professor for choral conducting at the University of Utah and Hermia Schlichtman, voice training and correpetition will be the tutors of the seminar. It is a unique chance to combine the musical impressions and experiences gained during the competition with an intensive follow-up seminar. The seminar is, however, also open to participants who are not able to attend the Chamber-Choir Competition.
Target group
All choral conductors who wish to improve their skills and knowledge at the highest level with outstanding teachers can join. The participants must have experience of choral conducting, the seminar language is English. The decision on active or passive participation will be taken at the first day, a piece for examination will be sent out in advance. 12 active participants will be admitted. It is also possible to register as a passive participant without examination. Content of the seminar will be conducting techniques, vocal training, intensive rehearsal of works prepared before the seminar and as much practical experience as possible. As a special feature one of the choirs participating in the 11th International Chamber Choir will be the studio choir.
